San Diego Affordability Index Hits 20 Year High

The San Diego Affordability Index reached a 20 year high of over 50% during the first 3 quarters of 2009.  The highest level attained was 58% during the first quarter of 2009 where the San Diego home prices reached their low (see our price trend charts).  This index is the percentage of households that can afford to buy a median priced home in San Diego County.  The indexes lowest point over the last 20 year span was 3.6% in the fourth quarter of 2005.  The indexes previous highs were during the period of 1994 to 1998 where a peak of 48% was reached in the first quarter of 1994.
